ICELAND

VOLCANOES AND HOT SPRINGS IN THE LAND OF FIRE AND ICE

Trip Overview

People often describe flying in to Reykjavik as akin to landing on the moon. With it’s barren volcanic landscape, Iceland is truly a land of extremes.

Despite its modest size, the island hosts a spectacular array of scenery and a huge amount of challenging hikes and climbs. With vast icecaps dominating it’s centre, hot springs, rocky peaks and lush valleys, it is a unique place to take an adventurous journey.

This itinerary covers several areas, including ice climbing on the glacier, diving between tectonic plates, ATV riding on the beach, mountain trekking, and of course a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon.

Accommodation & Service

Iceland has a wonderful variety of places to stay, and as with all of our trips, we hand pick a selection of the best.

For this adventure, we’ve chosen properties based on their location, quality, and design:

Adventure Hotel ION is an iconic piece of architecture, stood on stilts and nestled in the mountainside.
On the Coast, we’ve chosen Hotel Vik, with its impressive views out to sea and across the Black Beach.
In Reykjavik, we’ve chosen the Icelandair Hotel in the Marina - within striking distance of the town’s nightlife.

The Itinerary

Day 1 - Friday 3rd April

Arrival in Iceland - Ice climbing, Waterfalls and ATV driving

On arrival at Keflavík International airport you’ll be greeted by your Guide and drive along the south coast to the Sólheimajökull outlet glacier. On the way we’ll make sure there’s a stop for breakfast and coffee to get you ready for the first activity: ice climbing.
Your fully qualified guide will take you on to the ice and set up climbs suited to your ability and determination! After some great fun scaling the walls of ice you will be driven to see the incredible Seljalandfoss & Skógafoss waterfalls.

Following lunch you will be taken to meet your ATV Guide at the base of Myrdalsjokull Glacier. You will receive all the necessary gear and a short safety briefing before venturing out to ride on Iceland’s iconic black beaches. The guide will lead you to the stunning coastline to witness breathtaking views of the surrounding area. After leaving the beach, you’ll head to the famous Sólheimasandur plane wreck. This relic has been resting in the sand since 1973. Following the plane, you will drive to the Jökulsá river and up the foot of the mountain. This action packed tour ends when you arrive back to the Arcanum Base.

After a full day of activity you can get refreshed at your hotel which has beautiful views of both hills and the Black Beach.
